The Wisconsin Veterans Museum is the state's most popular military history museum and a key educational activity, showcasing the stories of Wisconsin veterans from the Civil War to present. The Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation is the organization's private fundraising partner, providing funds for exhibits, educational programs, preservation of artifacts, events, and other initiatives.
The Museum is monumental in keeping history alive and honoring the brave men and women who have fought for our nation.
Our Impact
The County Materials Family of Companies is a strong supporter of the United States Armed Forces through our philanthropic arm, the Sonnentag American Foundation.. Recently, the Foundation provided a donation to the museum’s Foundation and sponsored the museum through a corporate membership.
Our support has helped bring a traveling exhibit, Compassion Under Fire, to life. The exhibit features banners sharing the stories of 15 Wisconsin veterans who risked their lives to deliver medical care while serving. These banners extend the reach of their stories beyond Madison and across Wisconsin. In 2025, 8 traveling exhibits collectively engaged 85,500 visitors, with the most recent installation of Compassion Under Fire at the Capitol reaching 5,500 people.
One of the featured veterans, George Banda, is a Milwaukee native who served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, E Company, Recon Platoon. From his deployment to being the sole survivor of Firebase Henderson, an attack on a U.S. military base in 1970, George’s courage and dedication are truly remarkable.
