Building Stronger Communities Through United Way of Portage County

At the County Materials Family of Companies, we believe strong communities are built by investing in people. Through the Sonnentag American Foundation, we are proud to support organizations like United Way of Portage County (UWPC) that connect individuals and families with the resources they need to thrive.

UWPC serves as a community impact organization that identifies local needs, funds critical programs, and partners with organizations such as the YMCA, Salvation Army, and CAP Services to deliver support where it is needed most. Its work focuses on three key areas: youth opportunity, healthy communities, and financial security.

This mission closely aligns with the Sonnentag American Foundation's commitment to supporting local community initiatives, mentoring and skills-building opportunities, hunger and homelessness programs, and services that help individuals and families overcome adversity.

Through our partnership with UWPC, we help support programs that provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, outreach services, housing stability, education, and emotional support for community members facing challenges.

In 2025, UWPC’s community impact included:

• 372 students receiving school-based or community-based mental health counseling
• 458 individuals, including 108 children, improving their safety and well-being
• 1,686 hours of reading skills support provided to 2nd and 3rd grade students
• 60,412 meals delivered to residents in need
• 1,376 children receiving school supplies
• 91% of caregivers maintaining employment or attending school due childcare assistance

Together, United Way of Portage County, the Sonnentag American Foundation, and the County Materials Family of Companies are helping create stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities by connecting people with opportunities, support, and hope.
