Grand Milestone Pavers® Meet Accessibility Needs and Provide Subtle Beauty for Residential Front Yard

Prior to the existence of this elegant winding pathway, this home had a simple walkway with several steps leading up to the front door that did not meet the needs of the homeowner who required a handicap accessible pathway connecting her garage and front entrance. The main challenge for meeting this goal was to combat the site’s elevation change. The contractor was tasked with creating a pathway with no stairs on a sloping site that typically would require at least a few steps.

To overcome this challenge, the contractor underwent careful planning and hands-on prepping. Several site visits were made to take measurements, determine the layout, and finalize any other necessities to get the job done. The contractor decided the best option would be to fill the site closest to the home and create a curved pathway that leads down to the driveway, then branch off a portion that leads into the side garage door.

The next step was material selection. This was an easy choice for the homeowner who previously had extensive landscaping done on her summer home and was so pleased with County Materials as her supplier. Additional considerations included color and product shape. Grand Milestone Pavers® were selected by the contractor for its large size module and small joints, ideal for wheelchair traffic. A blended color scheme compliments the home so the pathway appears to be a subtle addition to the landscape, not a central feature. Additionally, Summit Stone® Landscape Units were utilized to create a small garden wall along the pathway.

The contractor believes the project speaks for itself. It was a rewarding project and the homeowner is extremely pleased with the outcome because it meets her exact needs.
