Gary Courneya’s passion for the prestress industry led him to a fulfilling career at County Materials, where he is able to work alongside a team of driven individuals who take pride in the products they manufacture. Gary joined the team as an Operations Manager at the Janesville, Wisconsin prestress operation in 2016. His leadership has brought the operation stability, increased productivity, and a renewed focus on safety and quality initiatives. Gary is one example of how an individual can align with the company’s Vision of Success, Stability, and Support to build a desirable work environment.
“I thoroughly enjoy coming to work every day and being a part of the industry. I’ve been extremely pleased with the comradery and teamwork at the Janesville location and the desire of all team members to continue to improve,” Gary continues, “Teamwork is my favorite word. I ask myself; did we start the day as a team striving for exceptional teamwork, and did we finish the day the same way?” To Gary, teamwork and the desire and drive to be better than the day before keeps the team motivated to meet their daily production and quality goals. In 2018, the team celebrated 12 consecutive months without lost time or a recordable injury; it was the first time the Janesville plant had achieved that goal. Gary recognized, “It took a tremendous effort by all team members.”
“Every single person in this company is an important part of the business. We are what makes County Materials.” With this mentality, the Janesville team has become a team of leaders, a team of people who are respected and trusted to do important tasks well. In Gary’s eyes, a stable and supportive work environment leads to great successes.
