Insulated Sandwich Walls Provide Enhanced Protection from Inclement Weather and Natural Disasters

Each year, communities are affected by natural disasters and catastrophic events. They depend on reliable building materials to withstand damage, maintain structural integrity, and provide safety.

Concrete is a high-performance material that offers enhanced strength and durability throughout its extended service life. Prestressed insulated sandwich walls are resilient and can prevent damage from flying debris and other objects due to high force winds. The wall panels can maintain their structural integrity during natural disasters, allowing buildings to be utilized quickly after any catastrophic event occurs for shelter and safety.

Building codes also require fire resistance to be considered in building design. Prestressed wall panels have fire ratings up to three hours. Enclosed in concrete, the panels’ insulation does not contribute to the fire load and reduces the danger of toxic fumes that are caused by burning cellular plastics. Insulated sandwich walls offer significant cost savings, as additional fireproofing measures are not required.
