The construction of Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau WI, was a much-needed improvement from the 40-year-old hotel formerly located on the site. The goal for the new building was to offer guests the best atmosphere and the ultimate venue to stay, hold business meetings and other events. The new hotel was carefully designed inside and out for maximum functionality, including the parking lot design. Ready-mix concrete supplied by County Materials Corporation was a key-feature in this project for adding quality and safety for hotel guests.
Ready-mix covers approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of the parking lot, and was selected for its strength, ease of maintenance, lower life cycle cost and light reflectivity. In addition to the parking lot surface, ready-mix was utilized to make sidewalks and curbs that boarder the parking lot. The curbing also creates a boarder for decorative planting beds found throughout the area. These planting beds not only help break up the parking lot but add visual appeal and provide a place to locate lighting. A significant amount of formwork was required to create these many features.
The area was poured with a 4,500 PSI, air entrained mix with macro synthetic fibers. County Materials offers a full line of fiber reinforcement. The use of fibers meant that rebar reinforcement wasn’t necessary—a time and cost saving benefit. Fibers were also chosen so a laser screed could easily maneuver and level the site, which was another time saving element.
