In recent years, several sections of U.S. Highway 12, near Baraboo, WI underwent major reconstruction, expanding the roadway and installing new bridges to meet increasing traffic demands. The project included constructing two 160-foot-tall prestressed concrete bridges that now stand as Wisconsin’s tallest. Each bridge spans across four concrete pylons, high above the Baraboo River, and is supported by a total of 80 prestressed concrete girders manufactured by County Materials in Janesville, WI. The girders range in size from 140 feet long and 140,000 pounds to 160 feet long and 162,000 pounds. Through exception coordination, crews installed all 80 girders in high-wind conditions within one month, completing the project ahead of schedule.
