County Materials putting finishing touches on McCleary Bridge

WAUSAU, Wis. (Oct. 25, 2004) – With the project nearing the end of the road, the Wausau area will begin its journey in style when the state Department of Transportation dedicates the new McCleary Bridge on Oct. 25.

Marathon County, the City of Wausau, the Town of Rib Mountain and the DOT will hold its ribbon-cutting ceremony from 1 to 3 p.m. on that Monday at the north end of the bridge.

County Materials, a family-owned company based in Marathon, will handle the closing stages of the project as its Stevens Point facility awaits orders of American-made steel reinforcement in order to pour the final layers of concrete for the driving surface. County Materials supplied 96 prestressed concrete girders (each 130 feet, 10 inches long by 30 inches wide and 70 inches high) in 12 spans. The company also furnished about 7,500 yards of ready-mix concrete.

The McCleary Bridge project began in September 2003 and cost $8.8 million.
