Marquette University building draws national attention

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 17, 2005) – Marquette University received national attention after its School of Dentistry was featured in American School & University’s 2004 Architectural Portfolio in Overland Park, Kan. The project’s brick exterior was supplied entirely by County Materials of Oak Creek, Wis.

County Materials is the state’s leading brick distributor, selling nearly 30 million bricks a year and representing every major brick manufacturer. The company furnished nearly 60,000 utility-size units of Belden Brick’s Burbank Blend with a fine grind for a taupe-gray look that befits the conservative, understated but stately nature of the prestigious institution.

Members of the American Institute of Architects, and school administrators, evaluated submissions from architectural firms across the country. Kahler Slater Architects designed the dentistry project.

The annual portfolio honors education design excellence and features, in its monthly publication, facilities that house education, purchasing and business administration.

County Materials, founded in 1946, operates 28 locations serving Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. The family-owned, American-based company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, ready mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and exposed-aggregate products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
