County Materials happy to be home in Roberts
ROBERTS, Wis. (Sept. 2, 2004) — County Materials Corp. became an official part of the Village of Roberts with the municipality's Aug. 9 annexation of the company's Ready-Mix and Prestress/Precast/Pipe facility at 1203 70th Ave.
The move is expected to streamline the company's compliance with local and state environmental regulations, which village president Willard Moeri said had, at times, made confusing and contradictory demands of the company.
"Now they can make changes to fit our ordinances," he said, referring to County Materials' prior dual residency in the Town of Warren as well as St. Croix County. "Now it doesn't take 90 days for approval or disapproval (of measures).
"But they were conforming, no question."
Moeri was enthusiastic about taking another step toward drawing County Materials even further into a community that has grown by 11 percent since the 2000 census and has built a new middle- and high school to accommodate that growth.
"They bring a lot of jobs to our community," Moeri said. It was a move initiated by County Materials, one which company president Tim Sonnentag said should continue to foster a mutually beneficial relationship.
"We're pleased about the annexation being finalized, to be further entrenched into the community after having been there for so long," he said. "It's a growing community, and we're an expanding company, so we're looking forward to growing together."
