Masonry helps plant seeds of business start-ups

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 26, 2007) – Seeds can only thrive in the right conditions, and it’s just such a resource-rich environment that will fuel more than 80 entrepreneurial tenants of the award-winning Park East Enterprise Lofts on Martin Luther King Drive, just north of downtown.

County Materials supplied nearly 60,000 pieces of masonry to the project, which earned Best New Development-Residential from The Business Journal, reported in its April 6 edition. About 10,000 units of structural concrete block comprise the backbone of the $12.5 million facility. More than 4,000 Premier Ultra® Burnished masonry units, in Autumn Leaf, add a warm, professional tone to the interior, and 43,500 units of brick add an air of solidity and permanence to the exterior in what has been a challenged neighborhood for the city.

The facility will feature 85 one-, two- and three-bedroom residential units as well as common areas where residents will have access to wireless Internet, print/copy/fax equipment, and a theater ideal for business presentations. The idea, according to designers, is to spark economic revitalization “in the heart of the community.”

County Materials operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, stone, ready-mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and Aggregate Finish products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
