County Materials supplied more than 22,000 units of load-bearing concrete masonry to the $6.5 million facility, where researchers will conduct pancreatic research in the hopes of reversing the effects - and possibly even curing - diabetes.
Tom Spizzo, executive director of the Spring Point Project, said certain experimental cells already have been transplanted successfully from cadavers to live patients.
Diabetes afflicts more than 20 million children and adults, about 7 percent of the U.S. population. Nearly 6.2 million of those are unaware they have it.
County Materials operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, stone, ready-mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and Aggregate Finish products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
