County Materials Donates Concrete Ready-Mix to Habitat Home

WAUSAU, Wis. (Oct. 4, 2004) – Habitat for Humanity always has been about helping low-income families get their feet under them. And a local business is helping Habitat get a solid foothold in its latest project.

County Materials, based in Marathon and with a location in Weston, donated the concrete that will go into the footings at the foundation of the Habitat home being built on Milwaukee Avenue.

"We really appreciate it," said Steve Wittenberg, in his second year of overseeing the residential building program at Northcentral Technical College. "We know it's kind of hard because everybody's asking for free stuff; there are so many organizations now.

"But even though I oversee it, we're not experts in everything. And County Materials was always there to help us with whatever we needed."

In 2003, County Materials donated some landscaping material to another of the Habitat projects overseen by Wittenberg, who said his students spend about six hours a day on the work site.

"We're always proud to help out where we can," County Materials marketing director Rebecca Sonnentag said. "The community's been very supportive of our company through the years, so we're happy to give back to a worthwhile cause."
