‘Kids Are Special’ at new playground

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Feb. 23, 2007) – Few can argue that kids are special. And now, thanks to the generosity of local companies such as County Materials, the Kids Are Special Here playground in Mead Park, along the west bank of the Wisconsin River, will welcome those with disabilities.

County Materials supplied 170 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete for the base of the handicap-accessible playground, and 200 units of concrete masonry for a restroom facility. The ready-mix comprises the flatwork, which is covered by rubberized matting that will allow children in wheelchairs to get closer to – and use – some of the equipment. It also comprises curbs and planters that will help beautify the playground, which will hold a grand opening June 9.

“We take a lot of pride in being a constructive member of the community,” Marketing Director Rebecca Sonnentag said. “And in this case, helping kids get out and enjoy this playground was an extension of that.”

County Materials operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, stone, ready-mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and Aggregate Finish products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
