Donation helps keep La Crosse-area family out of the cold

MARATHON, Wis. (Dec. 20, 2005) - The Frey family of Medary could hardly speak when walking through their newly remodeled home, but their silence spoke volumes about the generosity of County Materials and the La Crosse Area Builders Association.

LABA recently unveiled its makeover project for the Freys, whose 1928 bungalow was run down and badly in need of repair. The Freys needed a non-allergenic environment for 2-year-old daughter Molly, who has a suppressed immune system following a liver transplant. The medical bills left the family with little money to make repairs and upgrades, and that's where County Materials and other members of LABA stepped in.

County Materials donated two dozen units of Decora glass block used to protect the Freys from the elements as windows in the basement. LABA has run its "extreme home makeover" style program for two years, and County Materials has been a key contributor both times.

County Materials, founded in 1946, operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American-based company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, ready-mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and Aggregate finish products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
